YODA-LIKE RUBY ROCK STAR NEEDED - $75 bucks per session

Hey Everyone,

Seeking a ROCKSTAR rubyist to provide instruction, guidance & code
review
for a smart, ambitious and eager student who wants to learn the BASICS &
critical BEST PRACTICES from the best in a condensed amount of time.

Qualifications:

  • It is important that the individual have at least 3 to 5 years of
    experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • You’ll be teaching the student how to build a basic e-commerce related
    site (without spree) using Rails 3.2
  • She’s been working with Ruby for a couple weeks now but needs to
    expedite
    the process to meet a deadline.
    -She’s reading Rails Tutorial 3.2 (by mike hartl) & Agile Web
    Development
    4th edition — but needs to add an expert to the mix to help with
    learning
    ruby and speed up learning core/basic recipes

Background of Pupil:

  • She’s has an Economics & Statistics background, with development
    experience using C++ (but is humble enough to know that this doesn’t
    really
    mean much …LOL)

Time Commitment:

  • 7 to 10 sessions over a three week period
  • Time frame is flexible (morning, early evening or afternoon is fine)
  • Each session will be ~ 90 minutes

Ruby on Rails Coverage

  • The student has identified specific areas she’d like to cover in each
    session (this will give the ROCKSTAR a little bit of time to prepare for
    each session)
  • Example topics include

    • Building a simple store (which will allow consumers to select a
      product with unique variants i.e., specific color and or size)
    • Messaging (email notifiers)
    • Stripe gateway set-up etc.,
    • Identification of the most useful gems, in-depth tutorial on MVC &
      using Active Record effectively

Pay

  • She will pay $50 bucks an hour and will commit to 90 minute sessions
    (~$75 bucks per session)
  • Interested in at least 7 to 10 sessions over a three week period
  • You will compensated at the end of each session in CASH, thru Paypal
    or
    Dwolla

Meet locations:

  • Open to meeting in San Francisco, Oakland or Berkeley (as long as it
    is
    fairly close to BART/public transportation)
