I’ve been using Ruby for a while, and so far, I love it. Coding is
quick, easy, and less prone to bugs in my experience. A breath of fresh
air for a Java / C programmer. Plus, it doesn’t take 15 minutes to load.
(Ehem, Python)
But there’s one thing I still wrangle with: I can’t do anything
graphical with it. I get that it’s supposed to be a functional and data
processing language, but I feel that the fact that it doesn’t come with
windowing and graphical capabilities is holding it back, preventing it
from becoming all it could. Yes, I understand that doing so would be
VERY difficult. Quite an undertaking, especially to make it in C, and
universal. But can’t we at least make an honest attempt?
I don’t want to deal with third party libraries, although there are good
ones. They can change quickly, and often don’t work after new versions.
Installation is also often complicated. And I’m not learning Python.
I’ve already lost enough hair trying to learn it.
So, I know my question is a little out of place, but why can’t Ruby
try to include standard graphical and windowing libraries? I think it
would help the language become more popular on its own, rather than as
“that thing Rails uses.”
Thanks, RJ
