Webistrano on Windows

Greetings. I just read a note on Webistrano’s website about Webistrano
not running on Windows.

Does anyone know if there’s a patch to get it running? I’d like to use
this tool, but I’m using Windows XP for the time being and need to
deploy from there.

When I tried running Webistrano for the first time last night it threw
an exception when trying to start the server.

Here’s the callstack:

You are liable to encounter deadlocks running Capistrano, unless you

Not yet, the problem is that the background-deployment does not work in
windows. We are working on a solution for that.

When I tried running Webistrano for the first time last night it threw
an exception when trying to start the server.

The server should come up normaly like in any other Rails application.
Just the background-deployment part is Unix only.

Have you tried it? I actually installed the fastthread gem as
instructed in the above callstack, but it had no affect.

If anyone else got past the callstack error on Windows, I’d like to
know.

I’ll try using Capistrano directly today and hope it runs on Windows.

The other thing worth noting is I’m running Rails 2.0.2.

Cody,

“fork()” is a system-level call that is specific to Un*x operating
systems.

No such thing in Windows. So the piece that you’re concerned with would
have to be re-written sans-fork().

Have you considered installing a compatible OS in a VM in your
windoze? I work with Oracle on my Mac this way.
