VLC streaming getting messages from vlc

if i do :

reponse=/Applications/FreePlayer/new/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC rtsp://mafreebox.freebox.fr/freeboxtv/210 &

from a ruby script i get the reponse from the VLC app only after i’ve
killed the job.

howver i’d like having part of this message when VLC is playing the
movie in order to assure evrething is right…

how to get that ?
