-v Command Line Option

According to the help:

-v print version number, then turn on verbose mode

However, I only see that it prints the version number. My program
doesn’t even run, never mind verbose mode. Are there any other
pointers for getting verbose output?

Is there a workaround with JRuby 1.0.1 ?
