possible to limit bandwidth per vhost / server not per client as used in
$limit_rate ?

No, its not possible.

Hi me again, reviving old posts. Any news on that since? It is not a
super important feature, but still it could enable to adjust correctly
the bandwidth allocated to a customer.

limit_zone module can be used on per vhost basis.
