The desktop application on Ruby

Greetings! At me a question - whether it is possible to create the
desktop application (I can be wrong it I name) in language Ruby. In my
understanding the desktop appendix is, for example, the antivirus or
other program which can be downloaded and established to itself on the
computer to download updatings.
Whether i.e. we will apply language Ruby not only for web-developing,
but also to creation of such programs?
Sorry bad English…

Yes, it is possible to create “normal” software in Ruby, using graphical
toolkits like GTK, TCL, or wxWidgets, for instance.
