Can anyone tell me what it means? Do I have to restart the application
to fix it? Any thoughts.

Thank you,

It’s saying that it’s configured to use sqlite3 as its database but
that you don’t have the sqlite3 gem (which is called sqlite3-ruby).
After installing the gem (and sqlite3 itself if you don;t have that)
you will need to restart the app

Fred

I installed it using the code:

gem install sqlite-ruby

I choose option 2) sqlite-ruby 2.2.3 (mswin32)

I am running Windows Vista (horrible).

It still is not working.

Hi,

On Sep 2, 2008, at 3:39 PM, Mr. Watson wrote:

please read the advice from Fred carefully: You have to install the
gem for sqlite3 (which is called sqlite3-ruby) and not the one for
sqlite before version 3 (which is what you did).

Do

$ sudo gem install sqlite3-ruby

and maybe (if you haven’t done so already)

$ sudo apt-get install sqlite3 # or whatever your distribution/OS
requires …

and you are ready to go.

HTH.

Kind regards
Martin

Is there any way I can switch it to mysql?

What’s “did not work” ? Choice 3 is the right one for you.

Yup. Install the mysql gem and update your database.yml (google for
some examples or do rails -d mysql to generate a fresh rails app set
to use mysql)

Fred

I typed the gem:

gem install sqlite3-ruby

and it says,

"Select which gem to install for your platform (i386-mswin32)

  1. sqlite3-ruby 1.2.4 (ruby)
  2. sqlite3-ruby 1.2.3 (x86-mingw32)
  3. sqlite3-ruby 1.2.3 (mswin32)
  4. sqlite3-ruby 1.2.3 (ruby)
  5. Skip this gem
  6. Cancel installation

Choice 1 and 4 gave me an error saying, "Building native extensions.
This could take a while… ERROR: While executing gem…
(Gem::Installer::ExtensionBuildError)
ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.

Choice 3 went through but did not work.

I see the database.yml file is where you go to switch. Does anyone
know what to put into this file? I am sure this is what you edit.

I started a new app, still nothing.

I tried updating mysqlite3, still nothing.

like i said you need sqlite3 itself as well as the gem. The message is
an unhelpful generic windows message. As Jeff says you can get the
sqlite3 dll from SQLite Download Page

I have InstantRails and it keeps the rail_apps and mysql seperated in
different folders. I connect them via InstantRails. Well, I have done
what you said and now its telling me,
