I am running ubuntu 8.04 and when I try to run the mp3 player for shoes
it says there is no video support.
Can someone point me to where I can add the video support

Try installing shoes from:
http://code.whytheluckystiff.net/dist/shoes-0.r811.tar.gz
Check whether the following vlc plugins are installed
libvlc0 libvlc0.dev vlc vlc-nox vlc-plugin-pulse
