I’ve had very good experience with Site5. The offer very affordable
shared hosting plan at $7.77 per month for 11 gig of space and 400 gig
of bandwidth and they include up to 5 separate domain accounts.
Currently I’m hosting two sites with them (www.zoobywooby.com) and
(www.loyalcommerce.com). They have in-house rails expertise and are
doing much of their internal development in ruby and rails.
The environments have been stable and they’ve been very responsive to
issues; they usually have an initial assessment within twenty minutes.
I had an issue when a disk crashed and they forgot to install a
reasonable version of rails (they only had 0.13 available), but this
was resolved rapidly once it was reported. No complaints…
So far the availability and app performance has been acceptable for a
shared hosting service. I would recommend them as a cheap solution
with many features (rails, svn, ets…). I haven’t tested them with
high traffic, but then again I haven’t had any complaints from people
visiting the site.
