Ruby on Rails Wiki full of spam?

Is it just me? A few google searches has brought up wiki pages on
specific topics i’ve been searching for, only to be filled with spam.

Do people know about this? I have come across several pages.

Example: http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/TextMate

Not just you. Every page I hit I had to revert back to find something
useful.

I tried to go back in history so I could revert but I got an error.

Jesse,

They are having a massive problem with spam from spam bots. It is also
hitting Trac systems related to rails. I have seen estimates that put
comment spam on blogs at over 80% of comments. Every time I go to one
of these sites I must take time to roll back the spam pages. It drives
me nuts.

The wiki people are aware of the problem. The amount of spam could
easily be reduced by implementing a captcha system of some type (Q&A,
image, etc.) or a bayesian filter. I am unsure why they have not
implemented something. With all of the spam the wiki is of much less
value. Also, the spam is bad because Google will be searching garbage.
I suppose the wiki maintainers are too busy to address the problem.

I would help to clean it up but not in its present state - I am sure
that there are many others who feel likewise - yes, I have reverted
some
pages.

The wiki is known to suck guys, everyone knows it. But rest assured

it is being worked on. I’m on a small team called friends of the wiki
is working on migrating the entire wiki to Jim W.'s Ruse wiki
engine that is built to be spam safe. Its the same engine that runs
the rubygarden wiki now and it has pretty much stopped spam
altogether. So be patient as we are all busy, but know that it is
being worked on.

I’m glad they fixed the mail list issues and the trac issues

A slight workaround while the new wiki is being prepared, that helps a
bit, is to use the Search with Google option to search for the topic
you want and then you can use the “cache” link to get the real page if
it has been spammed over.
