Ruby on rails web hosting?

I’m sorry if this is off topic, and also if I am repeat posting. I
tried posting from http://groups.google.com/group/rubyonrails-talk… i
waited 5 minutes and nothing showed up.

I am looking for a place that I can get substruct up and running. I
will eventually be adding quite a few different stores, and if I can do
this from one host in one account that would be ideal. The stores will
be small and will be low to medium traffic. Searching for ‘ruby on
rails hosting’ brings up so many different web hosts that are way
different than I am used to seeing, some selling by the slice(??)
~300-900 dollars for a basic site, some that are ‘free’ but charge per
ram-hour, and others than are what I was expecting to pay, but nickel
and dimeing all over the place.

I thought this would be a good place to look for recommendations.
Thanks a lot

We’re happy with SliceHost. At only $20/mo it’s a nice place to get
up and running even if you move somewhere else later.

“The List” : Peak Obsession

However, I also HIGHLY recommend Slicehost (www.slicehost.com) if
you’ve got the know-how to setup Ubuntu (or another linux distro) from
command line. Slicehost sells by the “slice”, and there is no nickle
and diming. I think the only additional fees that you can have are 1)
additional IP addresses and 2) over bandwidth fees (but you can check
your bandwidth in realtime, anytime). As far as the RAM, processor
usage, it’s hard-capped with Xen virtualization, so you can’t go over
what you’re alloted – it’s basically like having your own dedicated
server (which is why it’s called a “virtual dedicated server”).
