Ruby on Linux with date extension

Hello,

I want to compile ruby on Redhat Enterprise 3 with the “date” and
“net/smtp” extensions. But when I enable them in ext/Setup, I get an
error.

Does anyone know what this means ?

compiling date
make[1]: Entering directory /usr/local/src/ruby/ext/date' make[1]: *** No rule to make target…/…/.ext/i686-linux’, needed by
install-so'. Stop. make[1]: Leaving directory/usr/local/src/ruby/ext/date’
make: *** [all] Error 1

This has to be something simple, but I am missing it

Thanks for any help.

Greetings… Richard Smits
