Ruby Mentor project

Hello all,

I’ve been listed on the ruby mentors wiki [1] for some time now, and
have successfully mentored several people, including a person from
NASA.

Whilst that’s all well and good, and I plan to publish some of the
exchanges I have had with my mentees, I was wondering who co-ordinates
the ruby mentor project? I have no idea what the “work load” of the
other mentors is like, but is there some goal of this project? Whom
should I contact about this, if indeed there is someone? If not, I
would be happy to take over a “leadership” role, whatever that might
entail.

Kindly,

– Thomas A.

Hello Thomas,

The RubyMentor was an idea of mine, and a community member named
Samantha helped me set up the wiki, whilst many community members
offered help that I eventually didn’t need (buy domains, set up a
site…)

It seemed to be working fine without coordination so I just left it to
run.

Lately I haven’t been following the list because my life is focused
elsewhere, so if anything changed I didn’t know about it.

I used to mentor a few people, and it went on great. I guess that’s
every mentor’s story.

If you want to take it higher, I’d be happy to give you the lead or
keep it and take your help - whatever gives the community most
benefit.

You can find some very old threads about the project in the archives,
search for “mentor” or “rubymentor”.

Gotta go now.

Ah, OK. So it has fulfilled its original remit if nothing else then.
That’s good to know.

Far be it from me to “take over” something you started like that –
it’s really just that the wiki seems rather spartan. I might change
that if nothing else, just to give it more structure and a little more
information.

Thank you for mentioning it!
I am so far with Ruby that it is too hard for me to get myself moving
farther. I will definitely speak with a mentor.

Thank you very much,

Thomas
