credativ is recruiting for a free software developer to join its small,
world class team. Based in Rugby, Warwickshire you will be working on
free software projects, providing customer support, bug fixing and
troubleshooting. Work will involve supporting existing systems,
improving free software packages and deploying new technologies for
customers.

credativ is an international free software company with a long history
of contributing to free software projects; key business areas include
the provision of free software consultancy, support, development and
training. Over the last decade, credativ has worked to maintain
excellent relationships with other free software organisations,
companies and upstream projects. Our clients are currently pushing us in
new and challenging directions so we are looking to enlist the help of
an experienced Ruby developer to actively help extend our technology and
services to meet client demand.

Required skills:

  • Ruby
  • Ruby on Rails
  • HTML / CSS / Javascript / jQuery
  • Databases: PostgreSQL / MySQL
  • Affinity with the open source community, preferably with evidence of
    contributions and history of communication via email, IRC and bug
    trackers
  • Experience in GNU/Linux system administration
  • An understanding of networking protocols, TCP/IP, encryption, computer
    privacy and security
  • Good spoken and written English, together with time management and
    project planning skills

Desired skills:

  • Knowledge of other programming languages, e.g. Python, C, C++, Java
  • Test-driven development
  • Troubleshooting / debugging
  • Paire programming / code review
  • Release management experience
  • Experience in packaging for Debian, Ubuntu or RPM based distributions
  • Office applications: Libreoffice, OpenOffice.org
  • Programming: Ruby and other object oriented programming languages
  • Experience of creating presentations or delivering training
  • Experience of working in a commercial setting
