Removal of USRP2 support

Quick question: why is the removal of support for the USRP2 (et. al.)
being
contemplated? I know its a bit older, but is there another reason?

Nothing to do with age. It has a lot of problems and isnt feature
complete. http://code.ettus.com/redmine/ettus/projects/uhd/wiki

Josh was not clear in his answer. Support for the USRP2 is NOT going
away. What is going away is the OLD way of supporting it. It is being
replaced by the UHD, which supports ALL of the hardware Ettus R.
makes or has ever made.

“Support for USRP2” is not going away in GNU Radio. Instead, we are
migrating our USRP(1 and 2)-based examples to use the new Ettus R.
UHD
and the gr-uhd wrapper (which continues to support all Ettus hardware.)
