Which modulation technique would be an acceptable answer?

Any technique you like:
Analog: AM/FM
Digital: DBPSK DQPSK GMSK QAM
etc

I don’t know thats why i am asking, or may be amplitude modulation just
guessing…
As long as you possess the knowledge of how to transmit and receive
the type of modulated signal you dream up, you can use software
defined radio to help you out. That’s the beauty of SDR.
There are a bunch of examples that people have written and are
included with GNU Radio, but the USRP itself is not limited to just
those.
Hope this helps answer your question.
