Reach of usrp1

hi ,

does anybody know what the reach of usrp1 is?

i’m using only one antennae and when i move the cell phone about 1 meter
away from the usrp1 it cannot register.

thanks,
walter

Hi Walter,

this depends on a bajillion things–d’board, tx gain, waveform,
frequency and of course the method you’re using to ‘register a cell
phone’. Perhaps you’re using OpenBTS? That definitely works decently
with a USRP1.

Also, please have a look at
http://gnuradio.org/redmine/projects/gnuradio/wiki/ReportingErrors
before asking such questions on this list.

Good luck with your USRP1,

MB

That’s a spectacularly difficult question to answer. It depends on a
bunch of factors, so any answer anyone could give you
would be largely bogus.

Although it does sound like something isn’t right if your system can’t
“hear” the cell phone from more than 1 meter away. Since i know
that you’re using OpenBTS, perhaps ask the OpenBTS folks what to
expect from their application under various circumstances.

Generally, the RX cards are sensitive enough to provide similar
“coverage” to what you’d expect from a similar hardware radio
with the same overall functionality.
