Rails based Forums - advice request

Greetings,

We are close to completion of a rather large Rails app, now the
marketing people are insistent we have a users forum.

After searching through this listings previous threads on Rails based
forums it looks like there are two main offerings.

Opinion2
RForum

Both look, to me, to be good and viable options. However, some of my
colleagues are concerned about the maturity of these projects and the
level of support they enjoy. I’ve searched the web seeking information
but not finding anything convincing I turn to the Rails community at
large for help.

The primary concern is that both of these Rails based forum projects
appear to be supported by a few developers each. There also does not
appear to be many releases for either project. These concerns make my
colleagues defer to something like phpBB. The issues can be summarized
with the questions:

What happens when project developers are no longer available?

How quickly to bugs / security issues get patched?

Are there communities revolving around these two projects?

Is there future development plans for these projects documented
somewhere?

I thank you all in advance for much appreciated assistance.

Well, you’d have the source so you could do it yourself if you wanted
to… Our company uses phpBB, but only cause it was setup years ago.
As
far as updates go, watch out if you should you apply any other
customizations and then try and do a simple upgrade… it turns into a
“go
through each file line by line” excersize (not quite that bad, but
close).

There’s also Beast… http://beast.caboo.se/
