Plugin development as part of MSc project

I am new to this group. I love Ruby on Rails. I am planning to develop
a rails plugin as part of my MSc project (which needs to be finished
by the end of October). Initially I thought of developing a plugin
which would automatically generate HTML templates. But, I think
Markaby has already achieved it in a way that the developer doesnot
have to learn HTML and CSS separately. I am just playing around with
different ideas. Can anybody suggest what might be a simple plugin or
extending an existing one for MSc project?

Mashups are always a good bet - look for something with a recently
released api and make a rails interface plugin for it? The BBC for
example recently released a REST-based api for their VAST library of
content and services. There’s lots of interesting stuff being done with
it already.
