Nighttime fun with ruby :wq

i can’t put much of what we work on online, but we just put this up for
a
conference so i thought i’d share

NOAA/NGDC - Earth Observation Group - Defense Meteorological Satellite Progam, Boulder - NRT UT Night Mosaics

ruby is driving about 50% of the code that makes these images. each set
(vis,
tir) of data is approximately 10gb of input data - though these are
obviously
thumbnails - and burns up something like 1hr of compute time.

if anyone is interested we are working to make this data publically
availible
via a mapserver wms/wcs interface sometime in the next few months.
mapserver
is a http interface so i may whip up a ruby api so you can, for
instance, pull
a cloud image over new-york state down easily.

regards.

This would be awesome.
