[NEWS] Ruby-on-Rails reached second place in Dutch Rapid-App

#1

Hi there,

The results have just been in and the Ruby-on-Rails team from Finalist
IT Group reached an incredible second place!
We’re actually so surprised, that I personally expect the start of RoR
projects here soon. We’ve already announced some RoR courses. And that
while we’re mainly a Java-only shop!

You can read a report from one of the participating developers here:
http://finalist.com/nieuws_full.php?id=94.

From the announcement:
Development Tools 2006 (formerly known as RAD Race), is not just a
contest for developing applications as fast as you can. It’s also a
serious showcase, evaluation and analysis of the development tools that
are used by the participating teams. The RAD Race is an annual event
since 1991. The event will be organized by Software Release magazine.

Although it was advertised that the results would be announced at
http://www.developmenttools.nl/site/ (in Dutch), the page still shows
pictures from last year :frowning:

Regards,
Erik.

So what software did the first place team use?

Apparently they used some home-grown 4GL tool written in Java.
You can find more information on www.crossmarx.com.

BTW http://www.developmenttools.nl/site/ is now up to date. According to
this site the winners won with a whopping 30% more functionality points
then the second team. Still, second is not so bad

Erik.

For non Dutch-speaking people, here’s the relevant section about
Finalist IT:

Loosely translated:
The company Finalist IT entered the competition for the first time.
To increase their chances, they had two teams. One team was using
Java, the other one Ruby on Rails. The first team wasn’t very
succesful, the second team was. By using Ruby, they were able to
finish second. It’s known working with Ruby increases productivity.
This was clearly proven during this race. Ruby is a language with
great potential, but hasn’t yet gotten the attention it deserves.

Congrats! A great result. Especially when taking into consideration that
rails isn’t part of your day to day (until now) as you wrote in your
article…
