Need help in copying public key for a new user to EC2

Need help for uploading a public key for a new EC2 (AMI) user to tmp
folder. Any help on this appreciated.

Follow the steps AWS Articles i.e not able to
pass this step “Copy all the public key files that you generated to a
temporary place on your instance:”

Steps:

  1. SSH into my EC2 instance and logged in as su
  2. Created a user “geoman” and with a password.
  3. Now in my mac notebook in the shell created a private and public
    key for the user ssh-keygen -b 1024 -f geoman -t dsa
  4. Now try to copy the geoman.pub file using the commands
    4.1 command : scp -v -i amazon-ec2-ticket-ws-key-pair.pem geoman.pub
    [email protected]:/tmp/geoman.pub
    4.2 command : scp -v -i amazon-ec2-ticket-ws-key-pair.pem geoman.pub
    [email protected]:/tmp/
    geoman.pub

Result:

Permission denied (publickey).
lost connection

If you’re using the default amazon linux image, you won’t be able to
scp in as root - root has remote access disabled. You need to sep in
using whatever user/credentials you used in 1. That article looks a
little out of date. If you’re using the aforementioned linux image
(it’s the default) then most of what it describes is already setup for
you. Lastly this isn’t really anything to do with rails - there are
probably more suitable areas for discussing this (e.g. the official
aws forum, which has a bunch of amazon employees contributing)
