Laszlo on Rails underway

If you have an interest in providing rich web interfaces for your
applications beyond the abilities of DHTML, including audio and video,
you may want to join me and 225 other developers on the Laszlo on Rails
project.

Our Google group is at http://groups.google.com/group/laszlo-on-rails.

Excuse my ignorance, butI just gave a look at
http://www.openlaszlo.org/

, and the contents of the “view source” page scared me to death :

Programming in XML?! Arggggghhh.
Is Laszl On Rails much different?

That’s why I gave up on Laszlo (although you can clearly program nice
stuff with it):
? XML programming (yuck)
? JavaScript (although I’d rather call it ECMAScript, because it’s
more of a mixture between JavaScript and ActionScript) as development
language (even more yuck)
? Flash makes the cooling fans of my PowerBook 867 go wild after just
a few minutes and tends to make Safari as stable as Windows 95 release 1

I’d love to know if Laszlo on Rails is at least going to eliminate
the first two arguments as to why I’m not using it.

Best regards

Your post is the first I’ve heard of Laszlo. After taking a quick look
at
Laszlo I’m impressed. Now if Laszlo on Rails achieves the elegance and
beauty of Ruby on Rails it could be very exciting. Is the project’s
goal to
add Laszlo functionality to Ruby on Rails or to create a completely
separate
framework? I hope it’s the former instead of the latter. If the goal
is to
create a completely separate Rails framework please tell me it will be
Ruby-based and not XML/JavaScript-based.

Hummm, is the Laszlo community not behind Laszlo on rails?
http://www.OpenLaszlo.org/lists would seem to be a more logical home for
a
Laszlo related e-mail list. If both the Laszlo and Rails communities
get
behind Laszlo on Rails we may end up with a very impressive product.
