Jruby in a service

Hi,

My company is seriously looking at jruby for our latest product
offerings.
In addition to having a couple of rails apps we also have some back end
services/daemons that we want to be written in ruby.

Ideally we would like to use Glassfish and warbler for the rails stuff.
For
the services I am looking at the open source java service wrapper and
was
wondering if that would be a way I could spin up a jruby process as a
daemon
(or windows service … we are in the process of moving our services
from
windows to *nix but the timing isn’t set in stone yet so I need some
flexibility). I’m assuming that I could ultimately host the services
in
Glassfish (but I have a lot of learning to do on that part :))

So my question is this… Do you think it a reasonable approach to get a
service up and running for a jruby program?

I’m off to tinker… but if anyone has any ideas, suggestions, random
comments… That’d be great!

Jay

“Service” is pretty broad, could you tell us a little more about what
this service needs to do and how clients will interact with it?
