Jruby based daemons?

I’m looking at playing with XMPP bots this week, and now Nokogiri is
JRubyified I can
get a long way to doing what I want on straight JRuby.

I’ve played around with JRuby webapps, but have no idea how I’d write
a long-running
non-http ‘daemon’.

What does everyone else do? A quick Google makes me think maybe
rawr (and something like monit to keep the process alive) would do the
trick?

Longer term I’m thinking GAEs xmpp support might be useful too, but
haven’t seen any
JRuby-based examples on that yet.
