Ruby on Rails Developer needed in NYC
My client, an upscale online retailer, comparable in some ways to the
Gilt
Group, is in need of Ruby on Rail Developers. They are re-platforming
their
applications. It is all new Ruby-on-Rails development. They are
embracing
Heroku
(http://www.heroku.com/http://www.linkedin.com/redirect?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.heroku.com%2F&urlhash=1dOO&_t=tracking_anet),
a Salesforce.com product and are working closely with Saleforce.com. In
addition to the core-business applications, it will entail mobile,
gaming
and social components.
The proper spec follows:
Under the supervision of the Director of Web D., with latitude
for
independent judgment, action and decision making, this position is
responsible for development, deployment, and maintaining critical
high-availability Web applications.
This is a hands-on role that will work in a challenging, innovative and
friendly environment utilizing the latest Rails standards and technology
for a ground-breaking web application. The ideal candidate has great
written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, is
technically progressive and abundantly creative. Candidates should enjoy
working with an innovative team, fast paced and progressive company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Developing RoR customer facing applications, which meet the
requirements
outlined in our application development specification
Iterative Development using TDD
Ability to lead or act independently
Monitor programs and program data to ensure applications are running as
expected
Review development specifications and make recommendations on process
improvements
Ensure data security for websites and company owned data and keep
Director advised of any suspicious or potentially dangerous issues.
Attends meetings applicable to Web D. Technologies as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Bachelors degree in computer science or related work experience
3+ Years of experience with Rails 2.0/3.0
5+ Years building web based applications
Strength in all the Rails migrations, active record
Experience in front end technologies such as jQuery or Mootools, CSS,
HTML
Direct experience with Postgres, MYSQL, or other SQL databases.
Experience with version (svn, git, mercurial)
Performs other related work, tasks, and projects as assigned by the
Director of Web D.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
B.S. in computer science or equivalent experience
Proven track record of continuous innovation, latest trends, and latest
development methodologies
Significant experience with web using a variety of languages and tools
Ability to work in an open team environment using Agile development
methodologies
Highly motivated and passionate about software; you take pride in what
you do
Strong organizational and management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
