Installing Ruby 1.9.1 on Windows using NetBeans 6.5

I have ruby 1.8.6 and rails 2.2.2 installed and have now downloaded ruby
1.9.1 binaries and copied them into a folder called ruby191 but do not
think this is enough. How do I install binaries on Vista as I have
always used the windows installer version before? I am not sure how to
test I have the both versions

NetBeans recognises that I have ruby 1.9.1 installed but will not
recognise my rails installation. Do I need to install rails for each
version of ruby I have if so how?

I apologise for the convoluted question but I am a newbie and have
started getting into rails and developed a few simple apps but would
like to take it further.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Hi Chris,

Do a quick search in the forum. This issue has already been discussed.
If that doesn’t answer your question ask again.

Cheers,

I have searched the site and there seem to be so many variants that I
can download or compile that I am completely lost. My problem is that I
do not understand the basics of how it is installed and its relationship
with Rails, although I am reasonably happy with developing applications
once I have a working setup.

I think this forum is probably too advanced for me and the ruby and
rails sites themselves are no help unless you are already an expert.
This is probably the 3rd or 4th attempt I have made at getting to grips
with Ruby & Rails and I still cannot find a simple explanation for
installing binaries and where I go from there.

Thanks for your reply Dan, I will continue searching and maybe I will
eventually stumble upon what I want. I think I may need to wait until
ruby and Rails model type development is available in Visual Studio,
which seems to be under way.
