How to 'flush hosts' on shared host

I get the following error when trying to run my app on bluehost:

Host ‘box137.bluehost.com’ is blocked because of many connection errors;
unblock with ‘mysqladmin flush-hosts’

So i attempt to flush hosts:
shell> mysqladmin flush-hosts -p
error: for not having reload granted on the user im logged in as.

So i attempt to add reload to the current user:
GRANT RELOAD on .

I correct the syntax using ‘show grants’ as a guide.

grant reload on . for ‘[username]’@‘localhost’ identified by password
‘[password]’

this results in an error 1045 access denied for ‘[username]’@‘localhost’
(using password yes)

Would appreciate some help with this.

I tried : grant reload on .

But get a syntax error
