GRC display category [none]

Hello all,

are there any means of showing blocks in GRC, which are assigned to
catetegory “[None]”? If I search in GRC for blocks without a
(recognized) category, these blocks are shown, but with an empty search
string, they are not shown at all.

I am using GRC 3.7.6git-214-g56f69533 on a plain Kubuntu 14.10.

Thanks for any hint.

Mit freundlichen Gren / Best regards

Stephan Ludwig

Nope, only blocks in the block tree are browsable.

Thanks Martin for your immediate answer. Because I fear ignoring some
blocks, which might become imminently useful, I meanwhile assembled a
list of blocks, which have no category.
Just in case someone might be in the same situation as I was:

  • AGC (BAZ) [gr-baz]
  • Bus Sink
  • Bus Sink Structure
  • Bus Source Structure
  • Ctrlport Probe PSD
  • Fractional Interpolator
  • IChar To Complex
  • Message Callback
  • Message Relay
  • Message Strobe Randome-Delay
  • Min
  • Missing Block
  • MSK Receiver (Debug)
  • Options
  • PDU Remove
  • PDU Set
  • Swap
  • TCP Sink (Baz) [gr-baz]
  • TCP Source (Baz) [gr-baz]
  • UDP Sink (Baz) [gr-baz]
  • UDP Source (Baz) [gr-baz]
  • Variable Delay
  • VCO (Complex)
  • XMLRPC Server (Baz) [gr-baz]

Good evening to you all.

Mit freundlichen Gren / Best regards

Of course, there is always the option of adding a (sensible) category to
these blocks and issue pull requests to gnuradio/gr-baz…

Sebastian

Can you do that for Ettus RFnoc? I noticed that has no category either.

Hey, you can’t smack my own arguments straight back at me

Weird: All the rfnoc blocks are declared in uhd_block_tree.xml, but as
you mention they don’t pop up in GRC. There will be changes anyway to
our rfnoc branch soon, so I’ll try and take care of this.

In case Sebastian was being too subtle: It would be nice if you added
those blocks to categories and sent us a pull request.
Same goes for gr-baz.

Note that not all of these blocks actually should get a category (e.g.
‘Missing block’). It also shows you that pretty much everyone these days
just uses search to grab blocks from the sidebar
(In fact, I often type until the block I want is at the top and then hit
enter… me and mouse never got along that well. Which is why I always
get owned at Unreal Tournament).
