Can Ruby/Rails be scaled to replace the traditional corporate n-tier
paradigm:
database server <---- java/beans —> application server <---- browser
GUI?
One example would be:
Oracle <— Java (ejb) —> IBM Websphere <---- MS IE or Mozilla GUI.
Thoughts?
I’m just pondering this as I develop my skill set.

Ric.
I remember the same question about 12-15 years back which asked if Java
would eventually replace c++ on the server and the answer was: No.
I also remember when I was laughed at when I suggested that we support
IE and I was told that IE would never replace Netscape as the browser of
choice as it only had 10% market share…
I remember a little before that when I was laughed at when I asked about
the possibility of c replacing fortran 77 at my school of “higher
learning”
I remember a little before that when a girl I just started dating, asked
me to her place so she could cook me dinner and I eagerly responded with
a resounding yes as I was very hungry but not for food. When we arrived
and she asked me what I wanted to eat, I responded that I wasn’t hungry
and we both pondered over this for a half an hour trying to sort it all
out…
My only memories before that involve something to do with staples,
railroad tails and ripe tomatoes but I can’t seem to make any sense of
it…
