Can anyone explain what is nginx.old?

I’m seeing some warnings in root log files regarding excessive processes
for nginx.old…

When you do “make install” to some destination directory, and
installation script
finds out that there is an old “nginx” binary, then it renames the old
binary to
the “nginx.old”, before copying the new one.
