Out of interest, what sort of gems? If I’d had someone to talk me
through building a cross-platform C-ext-for-MRI and Java-ext-for-JRuby
gem six months ago that would have been really useful.

FTR I got it working in the end.

It’s definitely not meant for building cross-platform C-ext-for-MRI and
Java-ext-for-JRuby
gems. The example is very simple, not one that would be probably be used
in production. However, the value in the course is around the structure
and conventions of a gem that may not be obvious to those just starting
out.
