Beginner: how to use gedcom parser

Hi,

I am beginner with Ruby and I would like to use gedcom parser.
First, I install it with gem install gedcom.
The documentation is not very useful for me since I don’t where to
begin.
I tried examples from
https://github.com/jslade/gedcom-ruby/tree/master/samples but theses two
samples don’t work.
Does anyone could give me a simple example to start?

Thank you very much
François

I usually look at the tests. A quick glance at tests/parser_spec.rb
seems to have some usable examples.

Thank you Ryan for your hint.
However, it doesn’t work

What I did:
I installed gedcom gem with: gem install gedcom
All seems ok

I use Ruby:
$ruby --version
ruby 1.9.1p376 (2009-12-07 revision 26041) [i386-darwin10.2.0]

I try date_spec.rb: (from tests/date_spec.rb)
$ ruby date_spec.rb

and I get
date_spec.rb:2:in `’: uninitialized constant GEDCOM (NameError)

Do I miss something? What don’t I understand?
I am sorry if these questions are too basic.

Thank you for replies.

My guess is that you need to be in the root directory of the project and
type ‘rake’. Let the rakefile take care of pathing and how to run the
spec.

That said, I was suggesting that you READ the specs so you can
understand how the code is to be used.
