I know this went around the list a few weeks ago but I forgot the
outcome. Who is currently developing a way to upload/manage assets?
My use case is pretty simple and just involves uploading assets to some
global asset manager (maybe in a fourth tab)… I don’t really see the
point of ‘attaching’ assets to pages as was discussed earlier. Most
assets are going to be in headers/footers/sidebars so if anything you’d
just want to add attachments onto snippets or layouts. In each
snippet/layout/page view I’d like to have a nice way to view all of the
assets currently available on the site so that I don’t have to move back
and forth to see file names. Assets could be flat and tagged or
hierarchal.
Anyone working on solutions for all of this or should I modify radiant
and put a patch into the system?

Hi
I think you can use the pathces that are already available for
attachments
to pages.
And just create a section in your page for the assets manager, since you
can
easily access any of the data in any page or page part from any section.
I’ld think having a specialy made assdet manager will be a waste, since
you
can have the same result with no changes.

Xavier and Tristan are working on something that looks quite promising
as far as attachments go, but they have yet to post a patch. There is at
least one patch for assets on the dev site, but the approach was
different from the one that will probably make it into core (it extended
page parts for attachments). If you want to work on something simple (a
fourth tab) as you describe feel free to give it a go. I’m sure that
others would be grateful for an easy way to upload assets.
