[ANN] - Lingr is born

Hello everyone-

In the spirit of previous Rails-based product announcements that I’ve
seen here, I’m pleased to announce Rails’ newest progeny, at
http://www.lingr.com.

Lingr is a community site where you can chat about your current
interests, in realtime, right in your browser. You can find related
topics, meet new people, and just have fun in general. Membership is
free- in fact you don’t even have to join to chat. By joining, you gain
the ability to create your own rooms, have a Favorite Rooms list, and
some other goodies, but anonymous users are welcome to chat.

For the technically-inclined amongst you (99% of the people reading this
post, I assume :-)), you might be interested in some of the technical
details, which are covered in a blog post I made at
http://blog.lingr.com/2006/08/lingr_under_the.html.

Anyway, enjoy, and we would love to hear any feedback you have, at
http://www.lingr.com/help/feedback.

Best,

Danny B.

Hi Daniel!

Congratulation! It is really great site, i love this clear and clean
design.

I was really surprised when i could join to a room without any
registration.
So it is easy to use. I’m lovin’ it

I like it, good luck with it, hope you get a ton of users

Very nice!

Just curious…who did your web design?

I assume you already know about the ‘issue’ with people being able to
change their name to include markup and to post messages that have
markup…

I too loved how simple the interface was…
good job!!

Thanks Jake.

I did, and still am. Lots more where this came from…

I may not have looked hard enough, but I can’t see where the push part
of Comet happens in Lingr. To me it appears like it is polling the
server for new messages.

It looks great and is easy to use. I kept losing connection though,
pretty sure thats not on my end. Good job!

Any chance you might release this under some sort of open source
license?

Would be great to get an engine/plugin that can be dropped into
communities. Especially one as plesant to use as Lingr is!

Congrats on the launch.
