I've got a question for the Rails community at large.

I've got about 6 months of work with Rails under my belt, and I'm hoping
to be able to make a career out of doing Rails web application

What I'd really like to do is find employment with a consulting firm, as
a junior developer. I have absolutely no idea how to go about reaching
this goal. Where do you find groups like this? How do you get a job
working with them? I really want to do this for a living, I've been
programming (starting with BASIC) since I was 8 years old... this is
just kind of a culmination of what I've been wanting to do my whole
life... but I don't even know where to get started at.

Can anyone out there help me?

What Keynan said. I would look for Ruby/Rails jobs online that I do
through telecommuting in order to have a portfolio of sorts to help get
normal clients.
