Los Angeles area users group?

Just moved to LA; wondering if there’s a users group in the area,
besides the San Diego group. (Their screencasts are excellent but
they’re miles away.)

Also, if the answer’s no, but there are Rubyists interested in forming
one, let me know.

Looks like it hasn’t been updated since November?

Now it doesn’t look like the site is even up… there wasn’t really any
activity on the mailing list, either.

However: yes, I’m in LA and would be interested in a user group here.

Me three. I’m a Perl monger but would like to branch out.

Now, are there any experienced Ruby developers willing to give a
tutorial?

Hey I posted this a while ago; turns out there is a Ruby group meetup
thing, it seems very informal, link is here:

Sorry, meant to post this sooner.

Yes! Actually, not only am I tutoring a Rails newbie from Long Beach,
and totally interested in taking on new students (plug plug), but the
development of a new Ruby group got put on hold when I discovered a
Ruby group in Santa Monica already existed. However, the main thing
that came out of meeting with that group was the development of new
plans to hold something bigger, with presentations, and the first one
hopefully will be on best practices in both Ruby and Rails. We
definitely found that newbies wanting to learn were a priority. (We
being myself and a client interested in sponsoring.)

One of the things we’re wrestling with and have undefined is location.
We probably have support on the meeting space side from Koders.com in
Santa Monica, Bitscribe in Burbank, and Fonogenic in Van Nuys. That
covers the Valley and the Westside, and hopefully we’ll do some kind
of rotation, or schedule some kind of time where people can make it
from across town, and/or find a location more central or further
south.
