Auto_complete_for - getting :id and using > once in a view

trying to find best approach to deriving the :id associated with the
selected ‘text field’ from auto_complete_for.

also, is it possible to use the same auto_complete_for more than once
on a view. My tests suggest not.

would appreciate any help or pointers.
