I don’t imagine there’s very much in Italian. Rails is still
relatively new, and the docs in English aren’t particularly good…
it’ll be a while before there are substantial docs in other languages.
I’m afraid you’ll just have to try and get by in English for now in
order to learn rails in detail.

I reccomend you wait before buying the Agile Development with Rails
book. Version 2.0 of the book is coming in a few weeks and it has a
lot of improvements.
Nevertheless I reccomend it when it comes out. I also bought with it
the “Programming Ruby” book by Dave T. and that helped me a lot
when doing more advanced things.

It’s in sync with ROR 1.1, isn’t it?
If I already have the version 1, would it be wise to buy only the pdf

Well… Personally I’m buying the tree based version. But thats
because I absolutely HATE reading books on the computer. Plus that
gives me the old book to give to a friend or another newbie. Biggest
problem I’m having with RoR is that there aren’t enough developers to
work with so I’m in the process of creating more. 
It’s not like this is the most expensive book in the world. And the
price difference between the PDF and the tree edition is so small that
buying the real one is totally worth the money.

Me too. That’s why I asked how much new stuff it contains.
If it’s not much, I can consider reading on screen, otherwise I have to
buy on paper.

That is quite clever. Un/fortunately my collegues already know Python (I
let them know it) and are not a lot into web.
And here in Italy from a professional point of you it PHP and Java. And
I suppose some MS stuff, but I am not even informed about it.

if I usually avoid translations) was to show the editor there is

Yes. But the PDF does not need to fly the ocean 
Living in Iceland mine only had to fly over half an ocean. 
There is quite a lot of new stuff. But more importantly there are a
lot of changes also. So moving between the old book and the new PDF
can really increase the risk of missing something important.
But since you hate reading from the screen like me then I must
reccomend Tofu (http://amarsagoo.info/tofu/index.html). It’s a great
column based RTF reader. I use it as default for all .txt and .rtf
files and if I’m reading a website with a lot of text I always
copy-paste the text into Tofu. Much easier reading text from it.

I’m a fellow RoR new user…I’m using ‘Agile Web D. with Rails’
by Thomas, Hansson etal. ISB N 0-9766940. The publisher is Pragmatic
Bookshelf. I don’t think it is in Italian.
If you purchase it, send me an email and I’ll give you a few things to
look out for. I’m using Windows XP and I ran into a few permissions
issues between RoR and MySql that I has to ‘work around’.
I’m also going thru ‘Programming Ruby’ by Thomas [same author] Fowler
and Hunt.
I’ve also ordered the ‘Matz’ [I think he is the originator of either
Ruby or Rails] book – when I get it, I’ll let you know my experience
with it…I also ordered an O’Reilly book on Ruby…

list of my next purchases is half a book itself.
