I'm a Windows guy but I really REALLY like Debian 3.1 (Sarge). Sure, the
Ruby is 1.8.2 but I want stable, not cutting-edge. I'm pretty
comfortable buidling from source anyway so if I really wanted 1.8.4 I
could do that. I'm using it for production at one site and for a
development workstation as well.

FWIW if you use sgtpepper's package for Debian it's 1.8.4.
