Book Gap(s)?

As a long-time author of computer books, fairly experienced MVC/OO
thinker/coder, and recent Rails convert, it is probably not
surprising that my midnight ruminations occasionally lead me to
wonder if a Rails book might not be an interesting undertaking. But I
know there are some great titles out there already and undoubtedly
dozens more in the works.

I’m interested in writing about the topic but I’d like to cover stuff
that others may find lacking in current offerings. I would likely
(though not necessarily) self-publish as eBooks, so I don’t need to
appeal to a publisher’s vague notions of what is needed.

Rather than clog up this list with a discussion that would
potentially degenerate into a “That book does it well enough, no it
doesn’t” shouting match, I took the liberty of starting a new page on
the Rails wiki (Peak Obsession
+Book+Authors) where you can post your ideas and requests. I’ll
monitor that page daily (unless and until people stop posting there).

So head over there and share your requests. Who knows? Maybe a book
will suddenly appear answering that burning need you feel for a
specific bit of Rails learning.

For some reason, someone decided to remove the link to this page on
the front page of the Wiki. But the page still exists, so feel free
to use it. Some already have.

The problem with Wikis…

Sorry 'bout that. I’d created the Wiki entry and linked page for
“RUBY” book authors rather than RAILS book authors. I fixed it.

The new URL is
