Unsubscribe?

Hi all,

Is the mailing list broken or something? I’ve tried unsubscribing but
sending just a body of ‘unsubscribe’ to the controller doesn’t appear to
work.

Any ideas?

James M.

Have you looked a the address in the List-Unsubscribe header?

List-Unsubscribe: mailto:[email protected]?body=unsubscribe

Hope this helps,

Mike

One problem might be emails in HTML format.
Or it might just be some delay in processing / email delivery.

You could also try using the form on

http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/community/mailing-lists/

My mistake - he had, and I didn’t read James’ message properly!

If you find out how to unsubscribe, please let me know. I’ve wanted off
since December.

Just to make sure: “not work” does mean you did not get any email
response from the server?

One problem might be emails in HTML format.

To elaborate on this:

Some email clients send a combined HTML/plaintext email,
which should work. Some send HTML only, then it shouldn’t work.

Did you exactly follow the instructions on
http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/community/mailing-lists/manual-instructions ?

Did you try the form (which should avoid email format issues)?

Did you get any response or not?

Just For The Record, and so people who are having problems know: I have
successfully subscribed and unsubscribed using the header and the form
on the web site. So it’s not really the methods given, but something in
how those methods are used. As said, if using the email method from the
list header, the mail must must MUST be in plain text.

I am not sure if the iPhone mail app can send plain text or not, but the
message you sent just now is a 2-part plain and HTML bodies. I have
gotten the unsubscribe method to work only with plain text, not mixed
or HTML.

@James M., @Lee V.

In case you succeed to unsubscribe, please feel free to send me
an email on how the issue has been solved, to forward to the list.

Sadly, but quite naturally, there is never any feedback on these
unsubscribe problems…

Marcus

Interesting…

I tested a couple of weeks ago and I’m pretty sure a mixed format
email worked. Maybe there are different kinds of mixed HTML/plaintext
email formats, or my memory betrays me.

Anyway, plaintext is the way to go. Using the form is probably the
easiest way to avoid these problems (at least for the initial email,
the confirmation email of course needs to be in plaintext, too).
