Ruby on AIX 5.3

Hi all-

I was wondering if anyone has gotten Ruby 1.8.3 to build/run on AIX.
I’m using GCC (xlC is not available) and all seems to be okay until:

gcc -g -O2 -I. -I. -c struct.c

gcc -g -O2 -I. -I. -c util.c
gcc -g -O2 -I. -I. -c variable.c

What happens with 1.8.4 preview2?

Here’s the gcc info

Using built-in specs.
Target: powerpc-ibm-aix5.3.0.0
Configured with: …/gcc-4.0.0/configure --disable-nls
Thread model: aix
gcc version 4.0.0

I am very willing to help debug this problem. I will work on it myself
but i don’t want to duplicate anyone’s effort or work on what is really
an operator (i.e. me) problem.
