Off Topic: VMware Vs Parallels for Deployment

I am planning to buy either VMware or Parallels so that I can install
Ubuntu and use that instance as a deployment environment. I am not
sure which one is better for this purpose.

Please share your experience on this issue. Thanks.

Which host OS will you be using? I’ve been using Parallels on Mac with
great
success and while I briefly switched to VMWare the general
responsiveness of
Parallels felt a lot better. I also haven’t had any stability issues at
all
so my suggestion would be to try out Parallels first.

(Although in my case the client OS is Vista and not Ubuntu so your
mileage
might vary)

I am on PowerPC Mac with 2GB RAM. What is the maximum memory that you
can allocate to the parallels instance?

None with ubuntu. We use Parallels, for winXP, but one of us has been
using the vmware beta and wants to switch pretty bad.

I just saw a “how to install ubuntu with parallels” step by step in an
RSS
feed… google for that… maybe glean something there…

Capistrano Deployment Peepcode screencast actually shows how to
install Ubuntu on Parallels.

Direct Link:

You can’t run Paralels or VMware Fusion on a PPC Mac, perhaps QEMU will
do it?
