Hiring Lead Programmer {Dynamic Imaging}

We are seeking to hire a lead programmer to build a dynamic Web-based
imaging module which will enable users to upload a digital image or
photograph to the site and choose from thousands of combinations of
mattes and frames. We will output the file via high resolution
printers on site and matte/frame the image in our state-of-the-art
manufacturing facility at a fraction of the cost of having it done at
a local framing shop. This application will be the core of a new
division within the well-established parent company; therefore, it
will be a huge opportunity for the right individual. You must show a
deep understanding and conceptualization of dynamic imagery (load
balancing, rendering speeds, etc.)

Candidates should possess the following:

  • Proven ability to create dynamic, code driven graphics (samples
    required.)
  • Specialization within an application framework (Ajax or FLEX2
(Apollo)) and desire to prove it?s the best platform for dynamic image
    generation.
  • Expert knowledge of PHP, PERL, and/or Ruby. (We will defer to
programmer in terms of the best language for this project. We feel
that the language is less important than the programmer?s ability to
    create this application.)
  • Advanced database (MySQL) knowledge and follow ?best practices? in
regards to setup (naming conventions, normalization, comments,
    performance, etc.)
  • Clean, modular coding practices (separation of behavior from
    presentation, thorough comments, etc.)
  • Knowledge of (ideally contributor to) open-source technologies.
  • Understanding of the handling and the transferring large files
    online.
  • Proven ability to create dynamic, code driven graphics (samples
    required.)
  • Advanced level Adobe Photoshop and/or GIMP.
  • Ability to provide consultative input regarding enhancements and
related technologies to the company and other disciplines.

Note: You will not be expected to do the actual design for the site;
though, you should possess a decent understanding of CSS.

We envision this as a full-time freelance position moving to a staff
position with full benefits if mutually agreeable. Dedicated
freelancers are encouraged to apply. Preference will be give to local
(Philadelphia) applicants, but all applicants will be considered.

Only candidates with links to online work, and/or online portfolios
will be considered.
