Where do you use Ruby?

I’m writing a prototype of a novel GUI metaphor in Ruby.

I used it before for many small tasks and a few half-implemented
systems.

I’ve used Camping to program a Web2.0 ( => community-based) site in an
evening (didn’t go online because I didn’t find a designer to make the
CSS
pretty, but I have time… This is not an idea likely to be
rediscovered).

I use it as a calculator a lot.

I’ve used it to generate an index for my grandfather’s yahoo360beta blog
(they don’t have indexes, ewwww) by screen-scraping permalinks.

It’s just useful.

Oh, and I’ve used it as entertainment: _why’s code can really be read as
a
book.

Hi,

question is; what is Ruby for?

as a RubyNewbie (coming from Java)
i don’t know much about Ruby, but =

I’m using Ruby with JRuby 0.9.2 and
task in ant scripts, as JRuby runs in
BSF (Bean Scripting Framework)
Works great

Before i used javascript (via Rhino), groovy, beanshell
but then i discovered Ruby …

Beside that, i try to use Ruby whenever possible for all
other stuff (scripting Windows …)

Regards, Gilbert
