I’m building an app that will have various levels of users. I’m
considering using one of the ACL plugins but wonder if it’s overkill ?
Also I notice there are a few out there , I wouldn’t mind hearing
some recommendations.

I find http://agilewebdevelopment.com/plugins/simple_access_control
better than acl2. It’s very easy to use this plugin if you built your
auth system using AAA.
