# Problem building vte, latest git

Getting a compiler error

rbvte-terminal.c:1060: error: ‘VTE\_TYPE\_TERMINAL\_WRITE\_FLAGS’ undeclared  
(first use in this function)

I’m using CentOS 5.7, with vte-0.14.0

It looks like this wasn’t defined until vte-0.23

My hopes and dreams… at least simple for right now, is to understand  
enough to perhaps un “depricate” gnomecanvas for some time.

I’m making it work now, but I’d rather “pass on what I have learned” as  
I  
am sure there are others out there that are still stuck with  
gnomecanvas.
