Just uploaded version 0.1 of a Ruby on Rails plugin
“simple\_twitter\_post” to github:

- [GitHub - stephan-buckmaster/simple\_twitter\_post: Ruby on Rails plugin to post status updates to twitter](http://github.com/stephan-buckmaster/simple_twitter_post)

Makes it easy to update the twitter status of a configurable account
with this interface:

p = SimpleTwitterPost::Base.new
p.post(“Welcome our new member ‘:user\_name’. Profile is at :url”,
:user\_name =\> user.name, :url =\> user.url)

Result: Natural version of this message appears in the Twitter time
line.

Notes:

- The :url value is passed through [tinyurl.com](http://tinyurl.com)
- If values of :user\_name (or other keys) cause the message to exceed
the 140 limit, they are truncated. The URL is not truncated, if
possible.

More in the README file,

Uses Basic Authentication at the moment. Twitter says this will be
discontinued in a few weeks ([http://dev.twitter.com/pages/oauth\_faq](http://dev.twitter.com/pages/oauth_faq))

This version is for feedback on the interface, see above. Incorporating
one of the twitter-gems for OAUTH to come.

I updated a week ago to OAuth (using grackle)
